Personal Information
I am a consultant nephrologist and associate professor of Medicine at Ethiopia's University of Gondar (UoG). I completed my medical education at UoG, followed by a residency in Internal Medicine at Addis Ababa University and a fellowship in Adult Nephrology at Narayana Health in Bangalore, India.
As a medical educator, clinician, and clinical researcher, I have extensive experience in the medical field. I currently lead the nephrology and dialysis unit at UoG. My research interests focus on acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular disease epidemiology, and sustainable kidney care in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
I have over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals and have secured local and international grants, including leading capacity-building projects for non-communicable disease management in LMICs. I am a Fellow of the International Society of Nephrology (FISN) and a member of the ISN Emerging Leaders Program (2022 cohort). As an ISN Emerging Leader, I am dedicated to advancing nephrology through clinical practice, research, and education.
I am passionate about preventing CKD and promoting equitable access to kidney care. I am also committed to ensuring better access to life-saving dialysis treatments for AKI patients in resource-constrained settings.
