Bahir DarMy name is Kurabachew Desta, and I am from Bahir Dar, Ethiopia. I hold a BA in Sociology and an MA in Development Studies. I am the founder and CEO of STEM Plus Community Development Charitable Organization and currently serve as the Strategic Engagement, Institutional Strengthening, and Social Accountability Coordinator at ORDA Ethiopia. Before joining ORDA in 2012, I worked as a journalist at the Amhara Media Corporation.
I actively contribute to my community by volunteering as a soft skills and personal development trainer at Bahir Dar American Corner. I am a volunteer mentor and trainer. Additionally, I served as an election officer during the Ethiopian National Election in 2021. I also participated in the 17th Annual Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in 2022, where Ethiopia hosted this event for the first time.
I bring a wealth of human and technical skills in project implementation, management, monitoring, and evaluation. My career is marked by a commitment to delivering projects to the highest standards, efficiently managing resources, and ensuring cost-effectiveness. I am deeply passionate about issues such as Gender and Social Inclusion, Behavioral Change Communication, Sexual Reproductive Health, Psychosocial Support, Women and Youth Empowerment, HIV/AIDS Prevention, Child Safeguarding, Community Development, Peace and Security, and Capacity Development.
With over 14 years of professional experience across various roles and settings, I am dedicated to supporting the most vulnerable segments of society through both emergency responses and developmental interventions.
