UoG Centennial Celebration GC

A Century of Care, A Legacy of Learning
This year marks a momentous milestone in the heart of Gondar—a city where resilience and service have stood the test of time. The Gondar Teaching Hospital is celebrating 100 years of unwavering commitment to health care, having served generations of families with compassion and skill.
Over the past century, this institution has stood firm through history’s fiercest storms—from the era of fascist occupation to waves of epidemics, from the hardships of mass migration to the shadows of the Red Terror, civil unrest, and the Ethio-Eritrean war. Through every challenge, the hospital remained a pillar of hope and healing.
This year also marks 70 years of higher education in Gondar—a parallel journey of knowledge, progress, and nation-building. The spirit of learning that began seven decades ago continues to grow, shaping minds and futures across Ethiopia and beyond.
We, friends of these pillar institutions – all affiliates and alumni, will gather on August 23, 2025 in Virginia, USA not only to commemorate a hundred years of service, but also to honor the men and women who devoted their lives to caring for others. Their legacy lives on in every life touched, every illness treated, and every lesson passed down.
We warmly invite you to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime celebration—a centennial tribute to healing, learning, and enduring dedication. Join us as we honor the past, celebrate the present, and look ahead with pride and purpose.
